If You Married Your Favorite Cuisine, Where Would Your Partner Be From?

Question for the masses: If you had to marry someone based solely on your favorite cuisine, where would your partner be from?

Yes, I know—how could anyone possibly choose just one? This is like asking a parent to pick their favorite child... if their children were tacos, pad Thai, and bulgogi.

For a long time, I was convinced that Mexican food was my culinary soulmate. Tacos? Eternal love. Mole? Swoon. I grew up in Arizona, so the bar was set high—like, "homemade tamales on Christmas" high. Mexican food was my comfort, my craving, my forever.

And when the leftovers are grilled with rice and cheese 🤤💜

But then came Thai food, spicy and complex, like a mysterious lover who’s both sweet and a little unhinged (in the best way). And don’t get me started on Korean cuisine. I thought it was just a fling while I lived in Korea—fun, exciting, something to remember fondly. But even after I left, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

When I was still living in Korea, I would ache for Mexican food and even learned how to make my own tortillas. Because even the stuff imported from stores was horrendous, but after spending a few months in Thailand and then returning to Korea, something shifted. Suddenly, Korean food wasn’t just a phase. It was... home.

Kimchi and grilled meat? Love letters to my taste buds. Gukbap 국밥 (soup rice)? A warm hug from halmoni 할머니 (grandma).Spicy grilled octopus? Be still, my beating heart.

So while Mexican cuisine was my first love, and Thai cuisine flirted its way into my top three, it’s clear now: I’m marrying Korean food.

And yes, we're registered at the nearest BBQ restaurant. 💍🔥

Your turn: If you had to marry your favorite cuisine, where would your partner be from? And what dish sealed the deal?
